Below are some of the most common questions we are asked by potential, new and existing clients. Please let us know if you have others.
SJD is primarily a local electrical contractor and we like to look after our clients, so find plenty to do within Milton Keynes! We know all the MK commercial / industrial sites and buildings very well indeed. However, where a local client has national sites or interest we regularly work across the UK and beyond, for example we install within Sainsbury's stores nationwide.

Yes. All surveys are free. A survey may be required to determine the scope of works, your needs, and how they can be met. A written report with individual recommendations can be supplied with your quotation as appropriate.
No. The SJD team has extensive experience in CCTV design and installation, access control systems, data cabling, server rooms, fire alarm and emergency lighting installations, plus solar PV installation.
SJD has excellent relationships with proven local, specialist contractors for the supply and maintenance of fire extinguishers, custom control panels, street Lighting, remote security monitoring, lightning protection, building works and maintenance and decorating.

SJD is an NICEIC Approved Contractor and including Part P Domestic Installer registration. We are also accredited by the ECA (Electrical Contractors Association) and Trustmark. The NICEIC inspects SJD's electrical installation on an annual basis and SJD's Qualified Supervisor inspects work undertaken on a weekly basis to ensure standards are upheld.
SJD's employees are issued with a Company Handbook, undergo regular training and work to the highest standards.
We are very proud of the skills levels of our qualified electricians, all are qualified to Advanced Apprenticeship Level including NVQ 3, BS 7671:2008 and the AM2 practical skills test.

Yes, for a period of 6 years from completion subject to terms and conditions. Also, the ECA's Guarantee of Work Scheme will automatically apply to jobs up to £50,000. Specialist insurance backed warranties and performance bonds are also available.
Through SJD's membership of the NICEIC, if there is an issue with the technical standard of electrical work that cannot be resolved the NICEIC's guarantee of standards scheme means any deficiency will be resolved without additional cost to the consumer. Domestic electrical installations to £25,000 are also protected by the NICEIC Insurance Backed Warranty.

BS 7671:2008, known as the 17th Edition of the IET wiring regulations came into force in July 2008. There are substantial differences to the method of electrical installation, particularly in relation to methods of shock protection.

If sub-contractors are required for specialist applications or large construction projects, only those with the necessary skills and experience will be used, in accordance with our Control of Contractors procedure. Any sub-contractors must work to the same high standards as SJD's own team.

SJD has an enviable reputation for delivering its projects on time. Your project manager will track the progress of your installation every step of the way. However, occasionally unforeseen problems do occur. If this is the case with your installation, your project manager will advise you immediately, and let you know what is being done to resolve the problem.
SJD regularly works on large projects, both for main contractors and direct for commercial clients. One such project was nationwide installation of fleet management technology in supermarket giant, Sainsbury's stores throughout the UK. SJD undertook the new build design and construction of Kiddi Caru Caldecotte Nursery in summer 2009 and in 2010 undertook the extensive renovation of Centric:MK in Linford Wood.
Yes, we like to build long-term working relationships and assure site performance and reliability. Much of SJD's work is providing back-up and support for its clients, often working closely with the H&S, Facilities, Maintenance, Office or Factory Managers and quickly becoming a trusted member of the client's team.
Yes. SJD is qualified to carry out any electrical testing or inspections required by law and insurance companies including fixed wiring testing, landlord certificates and portable appliance testing.

Yes. Efficient equipment and effective design and installation are excellent ways to minimise energy wastage. SJD encourages its clients to use the latest low-energy solutions. This might include the use of Energy Voltage Regulators and low energy lighting solutions. SJD can prepare energy reports and advise you on how to reduce your energy costs and obtain funding. SJD can advise on renewable technologies and partner local suppliers for installation.
SJD has its own environmental policy and complies fully with the WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) and Hazardous Waste regulations.
