SJD is a local family business, founded in 1992 by owner Stephen Devine and established as a limited company in 1996 - we’re officially 15 in August 2011!

He is an affiliated electrical engineer with the IET and was previously employed as an engineer at MK Development Corporation, he has vast experience with the commercial and industrial buildings of Milton Keynes. Many of our clients have been with us from the beginning, we like to know a building’s installation inside and out and look after our clients through their changing requirements, providing value for money and intelligent, engineered solutions. In 2006, daughter Ruth Devine joined from a corporate background in manufacturing to help build a business for the future.

SJD has been involved with lots of exciting new builds including Rectory Farm in Stoke Hammond, St. John’s Ambulance Training Centre at Greenleys and the Kiddi Caru Nursery at Caldecotte.

We are also very partial to refurbishment and dilapidations. Projects include Centric:MK at Linford Wood, Cranfield University and various properties across MK for commercial clients including The Parks Trust, local commercial property agents and contractors.

Electrical inspection and testing is a big part of our business, we’re very proud of our testing and reporting capabilities, unfortunately we see a lot of dubious certification. Thorough, timely inspection and reporting is incredibly valuable for our clients’ performance, security and resilience – not just as a requirement for the insurance company.

Most of our work is direct from local, private businesses – from mobile catering vans, retail units in the Centre: MK, to large multi-nationals such as Schueco and Aculab, and every type of company in between. It’s a good feeling to help a small business with an effective solution, particularly one that will also save money.

The key to our success is our clients and our employees. Making customers happy makes us happy, that’s not just marketing speak, it’s a big part of what we do and why we enjoy coming to work, even when times are tough. We like to solve problems and make things more efficient. Milton Keynes is a great, unique place to do business and we’re active in the MK business community including the MK Chamber of Commerce and with our industry bodies, the NICEIC and ECA.

We like to think we have the best of both worlds, we can offer a fast, flexible, personal service, but we also have the resources to be responsive and the ability to serve our clients, regardless of size or sector.
